~ The Beginning ~
Our story begins in 1942 when my father Frank Brennan
opened a fruit stand in Monroe, Wisconsin. In the beginning, Frank
purchased fruit from various locations, but he always found that he
got the best produce when he personally visited farms and selected
his fruit. As a result of his experience, he formed the underlying
philosophy at Brennan’s: We Buy Direct So You Buy the Best. As Frank’s reputation for quality grew, he turned to buying
cheese direct from factories. He didn’t have to look far because
the best cheesemakers were in his own backyard, Green County! Brennan’s
could now offer Green County’s finest to their customers. Not
surprisingly, it was and continues to be a highly successful relationship.
In fact, many of those same families are still around today making
cheese for Brennan’s.
~ The Dream Continues ~
In 1967 we expanded to Madison with a Brennan’s Market, followed
by another there in 1975, Brookfield in 1988, and a third Madison
store in 2004. In 2003 we opened Brennan’s Cellars in New Glarus,
Wisconsin, a cheese storage facility and
the perfect place to hand cut and pack cheese fresh for all our Brennan’s
stores. Our online gift store featuring Wisconsin Cheese Gifts
opened in fall of 2004 at www.BrennansMarket.com.
Much has changed through the years, but one thing
that will never change is Frank Brennan’s original philosophy of Buying Direct
So You Buy the Best. The Brennan’s family personally visits
and inspects every farm, orchard, vineyard, microbrewery and cheese
factory that we do business with all over the United States and Canada,
as well as Australia, Chile, New Zealand and Ireland.
